Anchorvale TMC 57th Chapter Meeting on 23rd August 2014

Inspiring & interesting, short & sweet.

Our dear President, Sathiyamoorthi, CC, kicked off Anchorvale’s 57th Chapter Meeting by discussing goal-setting and how to achieve it. BAR. Word of the Day – bar. Norman, our language evaluator explained the multiple uses of the word ‘bar’ and encouraged us to use it throughout the meeting.

It was time for our prepared speeches. Initially we were supposed to have a total of 3 speakers, but 2 of them dropped out. Despite that, the chapter meeting has to go on. Mae gave an inspiring speech on how she discovered her own identity and how fortunate she is for having such understanding and accepting people in her life. Her confidence and courage won her a standing ovation from some of our members.

Next up was the brain-racking table topics segment. The theme Ken gave this time round is phobia. There are many different types of phobia in the world, some serious, some may just seem comical. Speakers had to pick at random one type of unusual phobia and speak about it.
Rachel then gave her evaluation of Mae’s speech. She pointed out the good aspects of her speech and gave her some tips to improve. They both seem to have one problem in common – sticking with the time limit! Nonetheless, let’s all improve on that together! :)

Norman, our language evaluator gave high praises to speakers who have used the word of the day and literary techniques, such as rhetorical question and triads, correctly. We were also blessed with a general evaluator for this chapter meeting. Visiting toastmaster Daniel Chu, CC/CL, commented on how our meeting was held and gave us some useful pointers for improvement.

On another note, Anchorvale TMC presents … … the Anchorvale Progress Roster! For the first time, we are trying out this new format of providing update through Google docs. If it works well, this format can hopefully be adopted for booking of speeches in the future, which will hopefully ease congestion while simplifying the process! This form is specially done up by our charming Norman and Zulhafni, ACB. Please click on the link below to fill in the form. It will only take you a minute!

Courage is not the absence of fear, but the mastery of it. Take your first step in overcoming your fear of public speaking. Come down for Anchorvale TMC’s 58th Chapter Meeting on the 13th of September. Just a reminder for all our members, our 58th Chapter Meeting will be held in conjunction with a team bonding event (BBQ @ Blk 317). Mark it on your calendars! You are welcomed to bring along your family members as well. Special thank goes to Chee Sian for making the beautiful poster.

A big thank-you to all appointment holders and visiting Toastmasters: Daniel Chu, CC/CL and Justin, ACB/ALB.
