Anchorvale TMC International Speech and Table Topics Contests 2017 on 11th February 2017

The moody silence was broken by the entrance of Chief Judge Woulfe, clad in black leather cowboy hat who opened the ceremony. His eyes squint as he scans the crowd, then gave an eloquent briefing of regulations to the tally counters, timers & judges.
                                     
Without hesitation the Executive VP & Contest Chairman Chee Sian Wee whose infectious energy, sense of humor, and oratorical chops went a long way toward explaining the rules of the game. He even showed the ancient art of clapping by a scientific application of certain formulæ: Name-Title-Clap-Rinse-Repeat.

This is one of the most highly anticipated match of the year for Anchorvale CC Toastmasters.
Another brutal rumble of pontificators, orators, elocutionists and rhetoricians.
This was an absolutely perfect five star battle. Every speaker of this match was phenomenal.

The International Speech Contest has been put into motion, the contestants are:
First was sexy Senthil who gorgeously gave his speech, titled "Life is so beautiful, let's live together".
Second was the hunk Hareesh, the biggest babyface alive who nevertheless perfected his speech, titled "How do you desire perfection".
Third was sultry Salma's triumphant and time-tested speech, titled "Time, test and triumph". Her number one supporter who kept winking at her was there which thudded her heartbeat, truly this is love or erm maybe constipation, this we do not know.
Fourth was the ladies favorite, the seductive Sridhar Maroju who nobody wants to underestimate, his speech titled "Don't underestimate".
Fifth was zesty Zulhafni who was hiding under the table, gave his speech titled "To hide or to seek that is the question".
Last was the ever humble and kind Owen who steadfastly gave his speech, titled "The long and winding.."

 

 

Right after all the speeches were delivered, the judge ballots were immediately collected and the lavish buffet of refreshment break began. Lo Hei” was then celebrated wishing everyone an abundance and prosperity among members, guests and friends. With a sumptuous spread of delicious food, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

 

 

 

The contest chair then read the rules and regulations of the table topics contest before picking out the table topic for this contest. Deb the debonair ushered the contestants out of the room with her devious smile while slyly confiscating their hand-phones. Don’t worry, they were returned after the contest but of course with ransom.

These contestants were required to decrypt the meaning of "Bonding in a family must be communicated in a social network or a word of mouth":

Zulhafni once again reclaimed the International Speech title for the nth time, even the crowd agreed, giving him a stamp of roaring approval and screams. It sure was an awe-inspiring performance, especially from a veteran speaker that drove ladies crazy whenever he pout his lips before giving his speech.

Big congrats to Weite who appeared poised and prepared as she maintained a steady, but stern, speaking voice when addressing the table topics provided. She also did a phenomenal job of keeping a level head in the face of the crowd favorite Zul. No one thought the brash newcomer would be a threat to the established speakers, but she's turning out to be a real dark horse in the table topic competition. Weite's fury ended the decade-long reign of the great Zulhafni with a display of astonishing nerve, virtuosity and above all, her lowered eyebrows and signature zipped smile.

Whew, what a show! Congratulations to all Winners!

Anchorvale Toastmasters 99th Chapter Meeting (14th January'17)

"We are the 99%" is a political slogan and an implicit economic claim of "Occupy" protesters.
It was Anchorvale Toastmasters 99th last Saturday 14th of January so we need to keep the ball rolling. This motivated us to take the crusade and occupy the great indoors of Sengkang West Zone A RC Centre. "We are 99th" signifies the increased concentration of talents, specially good looks among the members of this highly acclaimed club!

Mr. Vicky start the meeting by requesting every awesome folks about themselves and their new year's resolution. Several scornful unbelievers, including Owen & Mr. Zul, voice out their nonsensical opinion about this upbeat topic just for the heck of it. Sridhar the brilliant Toastmaster of the Day started the meeting and explained the agenda. Our sweet & sultry Vice-President Salma gave the opening address and teased everyone about her soon-to-be life changing event. She also challenged everyone including herself this 2017 to give more speeches, to take more roles and to continue improving -- fellow members take heed to the boss!

The much anticipated prepared-speech segment starts right after.
Dino's shared us his P3 speech with pizzazz, he also shared how he overcome his struggles while attending school in Singapore. Owen then timidly inspired everyone how to use the science of mastery, autonomy and purpose to effectively motivate people and organization. Benjamin our professional emcee, flamboyantly delivered his AP1 keynote address. He invigorated everyone to always sprinkle a "twinkle" to everyone's heart while he sing "twinkle-tinkle-little-star" at the same time.

Following the end of the prepared speech segment, a short refreshment break gave us the opportunity to mingle with the guests while at the same time bingeing on the yummy pizzas prepared by the sassy & savvy Salma.

After the break a special segment from our honored guest Chai Pei Shan (ACB,ALB) enlightened us how to prepare for International Speech contest which will be held on 11th of February exactly the same date as her birthday.

She explained how to effectively prepare using the following method:
Themes - to use a unique & relatable story
Mastery - to practice, practice, practice (with friends, colleagues, strangers and on mirrors)
Coach - to choose the right mentor, to talk to champions and attend trainings

After the very illuminating information from our honoured guest, the project evaluation segment started out. Ricky, Chee Sian (CC, ALB), Roger (CC, CL) and Mr. Zul (ACB) all gave their insightful comments on the prepared speeches. Roger's resounding evaluation impressed everyone to win him the coveted best project evaluation.

Next came the stimulating and adrenaline inducing table topics segment!
Our table topics master, Chee Sian (CC, ALB) made this special by using the past contest topics to prepare everyone for the upcoming Table Topics competition.

Hemant happily explained how keeping together is progress, working together is success.
Rusman shared his relucently view why after climbing the hill, one will find that there are many more hills to climb topic.

Weite wittingly exposit her opinion on why all who wonder are lost.
BaoLong bountifully dilate his feeling if it is better to be wanted or want to be needed.
CM courageously clarify the meaning of everything happen for a reason - live it, love it, learn from it.
Sridhar the sexy smart-aleck,set forth his idea if asking for help is a sign of strength or humility.
Sharlyn salaciously stipulate her sentiment on topic - if opportunity doesn't knock build a door.

 

 

 

Mr. Zul, Anchorvale TM's Evaluation Laureate afterwards gave a great speech evaluation to each brave soul. He altruistically bestow his past championship evaluation experience and how he made it to the apex of his success which inspired each and every members.

 Weite was the Ah counter who divulged every filler sounds used in the meeting such as "and, but, so, you know, ah, um" and her pet peeve "like".
The meeting eventually ended with the President’s magnanimous closing address.

Anchorvale CC Toastmasters 98th Chapter Meeting plus Christmas Feast

Christmas is one of the most magical time of the year in sunny Singapore.

Orchard road lights up, sale in almost every corner, Norman d' Chairman getting a huge bonus!

These are true signs that Christmas is just a few days away.

The chapter meeting started off with a quick round of introduction thanks to Dino our SAA. Thereafter everyone were asked to share their most memorable Christmas experience. Rusman took the stage to deliver a fantastic opening in his TMD role. Thereafter, our dear President Norman Tan shared to everyone his acronymically bittersweet feeling on the festive season as – CRAZED (cranky-regret-anxious-zorry-enlivened-divine). Zorry!?! .... really Norman? 

SPIRITED – the word of the day. Muthu Ganesh, CC, CL, was our language evaluator for this chapter meeting. He is present to pick out the beautiful language that we used throughout the meeting. He is present to encourage everyone to utilized verbal ornamentation such as rhetoric, triads, idioms and analogy.

 

What an exciting day we had lined up. 6 prepared speeches, 5 from the Competent Communicator Manual and 1 speech from Advanced Manual. Gu Weite organized her P2 speech with pizzazz, sharing the 3 knows of speaking. Angela Cai then encourage everyone how to get a stronger will power to achieve the things you want. Vicky Frantz then share how to decode life secret by living it without regrets. Then Kelvin shock us by telling us the amount of food waste generated in Singapore has increased by about 45 per cent over the past 10 years. Yuan Yuan jubilantly advocate in his speech to live a joyful life. Last but not least, we have Sathiya the superb speaker, who proved to everyone his magniloquence by whipping up a laughter-filled speech about healthy lifestyle. His effort eventually won him the best prepared speech speaker award. Good job! It was an oratorical delight that made the Saturday afternoon absolutely awesome!

 

As this chapter meeting is a Christmas special, our refreshments were also special. Our club mentor, Jenny, DTM brought a sumptuous roasted chicken for the occasion, celebrating the birthday of our December babies at the same time. To balance our diet, she prepared a delicious fruit salad as well, thanks Jenny you’re awesome! please share the recipe please!

 

 

 

 

The project evaluations segment came right after our refreshment break. Chee Sian, Celine Goh, Joe Wan, Norman Tan, Richard Tay and Jenny Au gave their opinions on the respective prepared speech speakers. Even for the rest of us, their evaluations educated us on how to make our future speeches better.

 

 

 Finally, it was time for the exciting but nerve-wracking Christmassy table topics! Salma introduced 12 yuletide table topics, first blood was the bald dude with the white beard. The interesting mix of cause and effect resulted in surprisingly hilarious speeches from many of our speakers. Some even speak twice it was that good :D !

 

 

 

All good things come to an end. Muthu delivered his language evaluator’s report, our benevolent guest from NTU Alumni TMC, William Tang, DTM, gave us his tender loving brutally honest monologue regarding how our meeting was held through his general evaluator’s report.
