Anchorvale CC Toastmasters 94th Chapter Meeting

How Important Is Your First Impression? Sridhar (Sergeant in Arms) initiated the Chapter meeting with this probing ice breaker question. And every one shared their perception about first impressions. Keeping up with impressions, Toast master of the day Ricky Setiawan surely knows how to make a good impression and he did the same in this meeting by handling his role with aplomb.

Our club president Norman also gave his take on first impressions along with his opening address which often includes inspiring anecdotes. And this time he shared one such anecdote about how he overcame personal embarrassing situation through positive mindset.

Next up, was the Prepared Speeches section. The lineup of the 4 speeches were very informative starting with:

  1. Mr. Vicky enlightened all of us on the possibility of using a mobile application to save a marriage (Project 2).
  2. Ei Wai from the Frontier’s toast masters club provided helpful tips about ‘how to negotiate’ in personal as well as professional life (Project 9).
  3. Sathiya through AP4 pitched an impressive proposal to our Club president on how the club website can be improved.
  4. Chee Sian delivered his aromatic (in ref to oils which he had brought for presentation) and informative presentation about benefits of essential oils.(AP5)

After refreshment break it was time for Evaluation. Owen (Not Wilson) evaluated Vicky’s speech, Valiliappan evaluated Ei Wai’s speech, Zul evaluated Sathiya’s speech and Normal evaluated Chee Sian’s speech.

Once the Evaluation segment concluded we were in for a Treat. And this treat was from guest speaker Mohd. Hijazi who delivered a Powerful speech on how to be a good conversationalist.

Anchorvale CC Toastmasters 93rd Chapter Meeting Cum Hackathon

Over the years, Anchorvale CC Toastmasters has always been a cultural melting pot, bringing people from many cultures together. Today, we tried to be a different kind of melting pot- one focused on Ideas in our first ever Hackathon Brainstorming meeting entitled "Anchorvale CC Toastmasters - Where to Next?"

As our SAA of the day, Ram kicked off the meeting by asking everyone to share an inspirational quote. Senthil next took to the stage to deliver a fantastic opening in his TMD role.

Thereafter, Club President Norman shared on the recent demise on our beloved ex-President Mr S.R Nathan, his opportunity to meet him and the lessons that we could all learn from him.

What an exciting day we had lined up. 6 prepared speeches, 3 from the Competent Communicator Manual and 3 speeches from 3 different Advanced Manuals. Our 6 speakers, Vicky, Hemant, Ricky, Zulhafni, Muthu and Benjamin were all revved up to entertain us. And they most certainly delivered! Inspiration, Life Tips, Moral Lessons, Humour, we had it all! It was an oratorical delight that made the Saturday afternoon absolutely awesome!

The first half was inspiring and now its time for a short refreshing break. This was not just a break but a time to sing "Happy Birthday to you...." yes..its birthday celebration for Salma, Senthil and Ms.Vicky (Sorry Mr. Vicky). It was good to meet few members after a long time. Also exchanged few ideas and got ready for the next upcoming Evaluation and Hackathon sessions.

After a short break, we resumed with our Project Evaluations, helmed by our own Salma, Zul, Benjamin and Sathya and our awesome guest evaluator Timothy Lin, DTM. Each evaluator had his own distinctive style, some opting to use analogies while others relied on hilarious yet useful lines. Zul chose to evaluate Muthu from the perspective of a taxi driver  and it was truly a great experience watching all these great evaluators.

The Hackathon was such an experience that everyone was so impressively involved in the brainstorming of ideas!

Furthermore, all of such contributions from the club's Toastmasters, the visiting Toastmasters to the guests, will help grow and develop the club further. In addition, crafting a wholesome experience for future chapter meetings.

This must not be the only Hackathon to be hold. More must come. More ideas must be spewed out. More of such fun!

Congratulations to our Award Winners:

Best Prepared Speech: Ricky Setiawan, TM

Best Project Evaluator: Zulfani Zulkeflee
